The state government of North Rhine-Westphalia is strongly committed to advancing the development of artificial intelligence (AI). Together with the federal government, the state is supporting the Lamarr Institute for Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence with 20 million euros per year.

In order to support the development of the institute, the state government launched the “Lamarr Fellow Network” program and on March 24, 2023 with Prof. Dr. Barbara Hammer and Prof. Dr. Axel-Cyrille Ngonga Ngomo honored the first two scientists as fellows. The newly appointed fellows of the Lamarr Institute will receive up to 600,000 euros for their research projects and have access to the institute's resources and the Lamarr network.

AI researchers at universities in North Rhine-Westphalia have until April 17th to apply for the second round of the “Lamarr Fellow Network”.
