27 million for sustainable urban transformation

The pursuit of sustainability and climate protection has taken a new, ambitious path in North Rhine-Westphalia. The Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia has launched the “Circular Economy – CircularCities.NRW” initiative, supported by the ERDF/JTF program. With a funding budget of around 27 million euros, the foundation is being laid for a more resource-efficient circular economy that not only protects the environment, but also increases economic added value for municipalities and regions.

Environment Minister Oliver Krischer emphasizes that avoiding waste not only boosts climate protection, but is also closely linked to economic benefits. The focus of the program is on the reuse and further use of products, repairs and the implementation of resource-saving business models. It is innovations and investments that are intended to pave the way to a sustainable economy.

Municipalities, companies and civil society organizations are called upon to participate and submit project outlines by May 17, 2024. This call is part of the much larger ERDF/JTF program NRW 2021 - 2027, which, with a total investment volume of around 4.2 billion euros, sets the course for an innovative and sustainable future in NRW.
