Where ideas become reality

The start-up Campus OWL at the University of Paderborn is developing into a regional pioneer in the area of university spin-offs. On an area of 7,000 square meters, it offers 150 start-up teams not only offices and co-working spaces, but also conference and event rooms as well as its own maker space. This project was made possible by funding from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia amounting to 32 million euros, which supports both the construction and operation of the Excellence Startup Center (ESC).

The campus is a central element of the University of Paderborn's commitment to creating start-up-friendly conditions and thus strengthening the start-up ecosystem in North Rhine-Westphalia. Particularly noteworthy is the start-up summit “moonshots & moneten”, which serves as a platform for the exchange of information about supporting start-ups from universities. Economics and Climate Protection Minister Mona Neubaur emphasized the importance of this initiative, which not only creates jobs but also promotes the competitiveness of the economy. Scientific start-ups are considered important sources of inspiration for overcoming current challenges, especially the climate-neutral transformation of the economy and society.
