Major EU investments in local projects

In North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), innovation activity is experiencing a significant upswing, supported by funding from the state and the EU. As part of the “Research Infrastructures.NRW” competition, 17 innovative projects were selected in the first round of submissions, which together pursue the goal of strengthening the region's economic and research power and driving forward ecological transformation.

The competition, an initiative of the Ministry of Economics, Industry, Climate Protection and Energy in collaboration with other ministries, reflects the commitment of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia to strengthen its research infrastructure and make a substantial contribution to a sustainable and resource-saving economy. The selected projects cover a wide range of topics, including battery research, hydrogen drives, digitalization in energy production and the recovery of valuable materials.

With total funding of around 80.7 million euros from the ERDF/JTF program NRW 2021-2027, the state government is demonstrating its determination to support innovative strength in various sectors. The projects are intended not only to achieve scientific progress, but also to have a direct positive impact on the local economy and the labor market.

This initiative marks an important step for NRW to consolidate and further expand its position as a strong innovator in Germany and Europe.
