NRW start-up in focus

A big step for quantum technology: The spin-off “Pixel Photonics” from the University of Münster, together with the “Integrated Quantum Technology” working group and other research and industrial partners, has received impressive funding of 1.45 million euros from the Federal Ministry of Education and Technology receive research. The focus? The development of photon detectors for applications in quantum communications, quantum computers and medical devices.

The ambitious “Scalable Multi-Channel Quantum Communication Platform (MultiQomm)” project plans to develop a detector chip for industrial applications. The innovation: various superconducting single photon detectors with different functions on one chip. The researchers see this as a revolution in quantum key transmission, which also enables smaller systems and paves the way for effective anti-hacker functions.

The Münster-based start-up “Pixel Photonics” has already achieved considerable success and was awarded the Innovation Prize of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia in 2022.
