Communication from the BMWK

With the announcement of the two guidelines in the Federal Gazette on April 18, 2023, the two funding guidelines EXIST research transfer and EXIST start-up scholarship of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection will be reissued and the content will be adjusted.

The most important points at a glance:

  • EXIST start-up scholarship:
    • Renaming of the start-up scholarship to the start-up scholarship.
    • The funding program is intended to contribute to the implementation of the Federal Government's High-Tech Strategy 2025 and Agenda 2030 sustainability strategy.
    • Funding program aims to increase the proportion of women and diversity in founding teams
    • At the request of the grant recipient, the project duration can be extended once by three months with continued payment of the founding team's scholarships if one of the team members gives birth to a child during the duration.
    • Incentive bonus: The sum increases by €2,500 if the founding team is diverse (in the sense of different gender distribution and nationality).
    • The sum also increases by €2,500 if a mentor can be found to provide professional support.
    • Real flat rate for material resources in the start-up scholarship - simplification of project processing and billing, processing comparable to the incentive bonus, material resources are planned with the application, the corresponding milestone is no longer required.
    • After about a month there will be an initial discussion with the founding team, network, mentor and PtJ supervisor.
    • Phase II for AI as a model project is being planned

  • EXIST research transfer:
    • The funding program is intended to contribute to the implementation of the Federal Government's High-Tech Strategy 2025 and Agenda 2030 sustainability strategy.
    • If there are delays during the project period as a result of maternity protection regulations, an additional extension of the project period by up to 3 months is possible with an increase in personnel resources for the founding team.
    • Incentive bonus increases by €2,500 if the founding team is diverse (in the sense of different gender distribution, origin and nationality). The sum also increases by €2,500 if a mentor can be found to provide professional support.
