EU Innovation Fund grants 108 million euros in funding for RWE's FUREC project

The RWE project FUREC , which involves the production of circular and green hydrogen from non-recyclable municipal waste in Limburg, the Netherlands, has received a funding commitment of 108 million euros from the EU Innovation Fund. Roger Miesen, CEO of RWE Generation, accepted the funding approval in Brussels today.

Financing from the EU Innovation Fund is an important milestone in advancing the FUREC project, whose completion requires investments of more than 600 million euros. With the funding commitment, RWE is now pushing ahead with project development at full speed. This includes RWE obtaining the necessary permits and approvals. At the same time, the company begins to conclude preliminary contracts with suppliers for the systems, potential buyers for hydrogen and CO 2 as well as companies that supply waste in the appropriate quantity and quality. RWE wants to make a final investment decision in 2024.
