Future workshop highlights challenges and potential of the bioeconomy in NRW

As part of the 3rd future workshop, which took place recently, various aspects of the bioeconomy were discussed, particularly in relation to NRW. Topics covered include the challenges in implementing the bioeconomy, the interaction between sustainability goals and pricing, the role of CO2 pricing and the importance of technology development. Particular attention was also paid to the problems in state aid law and the communication difficulties between companies and authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Main points:

  • Pricing: There is a difference between sustainability goals and their acceptance by consumers.
  • CO2 pricing: Current price increases make implementation difficult.
  • Technology development in NRW: Emphasis on the need for pilot projects and large-scale production.
  • Communication between companies and authorities: There is a need for improved dialogue and coordination.
  • Funding programs: The expiration of certain programs raises questions about future innovation opportunities.
