Funding program to accelerate planning of city and railway projects
NRW is funding the planning of city and railway projects for sustainable mobility with around 60 million euros
Accelerated planning of new infrastructure measures is the basis for a sustainable mobility transition. In order to achieve this, the North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry of the Environment and Transport is funding 45 measures as part of the funding program to accelerate the planning of urban and railway projects with around 60 million euros. Environment and Transport Minister Oliver Krischer emphasizes the great importance of local public transport for the mobility transition and the achievement of climate goals. The aim is to “…increase public transport offerings by at least 60 percent by 2030.”
The supported measures include the extension of the Bonn light rail via Niederkassel to Cologne, the diesel successor concept for the Lower Rhine-Münsterland network and the reactivation of the Walsumbahn. In addition, feasibility studies are also funded, which serve as a basis for the subsequent planning phases.
