Promoting global collaboration and technological advancement

In a major step towards promoting 6G research in Europe, the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) has published its third research and innovation (R&I) work program for 2024. With a remarkable funding of 129 million euros, this program aims to advance the development of 6G systems and lay the foundation for future standardization activities.

The R&I work program 2024 is dedicated to bringing together industry leaders, academies, research institutions, SMEs and innovators with the aim of developing 6G technologies and establishing international standards. It highlights three key areas: promoting higher technology readiness (TRL) projects, integrating microelectronics into 6G infrastructures and emphasizing international cooperation.

The importance of global partnerships is highlighted by planned collaborations with countries such as the Republic of Korea and Japan to increase the global impact of research. Particular attention will be paid to the sustainable design of 6G infrastructure and the promotion of innovation in microelectronics, with artificial intelligence playing a key role.

In North Rhine-Westphalia, this program offers an opportunity to position yourself at the forefront of 6G research and innovation and strengthen the region's innovation ecosystem. The third call for proposals will open in January 2024, with interested parties able to start preparations now.
