Despite the strained budget situation, the GWK is investing in the future of university excellence.
The Joint Science Conference (GWK) has taken a decisive step in promoting excellent university research. Despite the tight budget situation, it was decided that the federal and state governments would provide a total of around 148 million euros annually for eleven funding cases. In addition, up to 60 million euros will be awarded for up to four additional cases.
This decision paves the way for the second round of funding for universities of excellence from 2027. The Excellence Commission, consisting of representatives from science and politics, will determine the specific competition area for universities of excellence at the beginning of 2024.
