The state government and the EU launch the “Research Infrastructures.NRW” funding competition

For a successful social-ecological transformation and strengthening the competitiveness of North Rhine-Westphalia companies, the transfer of the latest research findings into practice and economic activity is of great importance. The RIS NRW emphasizes the importance of research infrastructures for the innovative strength and competitiveness of the regions and the state. Research infrastructures, such as laboratories, test fields and databases, are essential for the development and implementation of new technologies and products. The state government therefore supports application-oriented research institutions.

Funds from the Regional Development Fund for the ERDF/JTF program NRW, supplemented by state funds and the project participants' own funds, are intended to stimulate important investments in research and innovation capacities. Funding includes, among other things, application-oriented research infrastructures and research capacities at universities and non-university research institutions as well as companies, competence and application centers within the framework of cooperation models with companies, but also “virtual facilities” for cooperation purposes. In addition to equipment, systems, structural measures and accompanying services, project-related personnel and material expenses are also eligible. Small and medium-sized companies, research and educational institutions, municipal institutions and companies as well as foundations, associations and chambers that contribute to the development of a future-proof research infrastructure in North Rhine-Westphalia with new, innovative projects can apply.

Project outlines can be submitted to the NRW Innovation Promotion Agency in the first round of submissions until June 30, 2023.
