Three central modules to support transformation

The vehicle industry is currently facing enormous change. In addition to the actual vehicles, it is aspects such as digitalization, automation and networking that are revolutionizing production processes and business models. These developments are accompanied by a structural change that will extend not only over the next few months but over the years.

In 2020, the federal government responded to these challenges with an economic stimulus package worth billions. Now the concrete implementation of this promise is coming into focus. The detailed funding framework recently presented aims to translate this financial commitment into specific projects and measures.

The funding program is divided into the following modules:

  • Module A: Modernizing production to boost productivity and resilience
    • Module A1: Production investment program
    • Module A2: Production research and development program
  • Module B: New, innovative products as the key to vehicles and mobility of the future
  • Module C: Finding common solutions, building regional innovation clusters

In addition to the direct focus on the automotive industry, the funding framework also highlights the rail industry, which will benefit from these initiatives. The plan envisages establishing large research clusters that will promote and implement innovative technologies in both the vehicle and rail industries.
