2nd funding round ZukunftBIO.NRW started

The state government is now launching the second call for funding competitions ZukunftBIO.NRW in order to bring innovations from biotechnology in North Rhine-Westphalia to market maturity more quickly. Small and medium-sized companies as well as start-ups can take part in the funding competitions for bio-based industry, future medicine and infectiology until May 3, 2023. Around ten million euros are available for the second funding call.

With ZukunftBIO.NRW, the state supports the final development steps before the market launch of products and thus offers a seamless funding connection to the ERDF innovation competitions, which start earlier in product development.

The funding call in detail:

  • In the bio-based industry , ideas for the efficient use and processing of renewable raw materials in industry should be put into practice more quickly. Through the increasing use of renewable and recycled raw materials and their biotechnological conversion into sustainable products, the chemical and textile industries, among others, should become less dependent on fossil energy sources.
  • The Future Medicine focuses on new solutions for personalized medicine, cell and RNA therapies, biopharmaceuticals and supports new dosage forms for medications.
  • The Infectiology is aimed at companies and start-ups from the fields of virology, bacteriology, parasitology or immunology that are working to prevent future epidemics and pandemics.

Around 10 million euros are available for this second funding call.  submitted digitally to the project sponsor Jülich until May 3rd, 2023 .

After reviewing the submitted project outlines in the 1st call for ZukunftBIO.NRW, the independent jury of experts from science and business selected a total of eleven projects with a funding volume of around 8.8 million . Euro recommended for funding. The selected teams are now invited to submit applications.
