Journey into the future of mechanical engineering service: The visions of 2035

The VDMA Competence Center Future Business, in collaboration with companies and the Fraunhofer ISI, recently developed four future scenarios for service in mechanical engineering, which were published in the eighth volume of the “Future Services 2035” series. The concepts were presented and discussed at a VDMA NRW event at the Windmöller & Hölscher (WuH) Academy in Lengerich.

The event attracted managers from the service and business development areas of mechanical engineering from North Rhine-Westphalia and neighboring regions. The focus was on current developments in the service area and its future direction.

The four scenarios developed offer an exciting insight into the possible future of service in mechanical engineering and include a variety of fully automated service offerings, an emphasis on sustainability and the used machine business, right through to outsourcing services to third parties.
