Digital and climate-friendly restructuring of the economy in North Rhine-Westphalia:

Study determines investment needs of up to 70 billion euros per year

In addition to future-oriented innovations, the digital and climate-neutral restructuring of the economy in North Rhine-Westphalia also requires extensive investments.

70

billion euro

of annual investments are needed for the transformation, according to a new study by the German Economic Institute.

This corresponds to around ten percent of the country's gross domestic product. According to the study, investments of around 50 billion euros per year are necessary to achieve the climate goals by 2030 alone. In addition, around 17 billion euros are spent annually on digitalization. While necessary replacement investments make up the majority of the requirement, the additional investment efforts required must also be backed by appropriate financing options. In order to advance the topic of transformation financing and develop recommendations for action, the NRW Ministry of Economics and Innovation , the NRW Banking Association , the Cooperative Association - Association of the Regions , the Rhenish Savings Banks and Giro Association , the Westphalia-Lippe Savings Bank Association and NRW.BANK jointly conducted the study commissioned.
