NRW shapes the future: OECD Forum Highlights

The world faces a dual challenge: the need to be environmentally friendly and digitally advanced. The OECD Green Growth and Sustainable Development Forum, which recently took place in Paris, provided a unique platform to explore these issues. Experts from all over the world, including representatives from North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), discussed intensively the ways in which this so-called “twin transition” can succeed.

The conference, held on November 21st and 22nd, attracted 200 participants and served as a melting pot for ideas and strategies. The focus here was particularly on the question of how the synergies between green and digital transformation can be maximized in order to promote a more sustainable and fairer society.

These discussions are particularly important for North Rhine-Westphalia. The region, located at the heart of Europe and with a strong industrial base, is facing significant changes in skills demand. Digital technologies offer new opportunities for participatory approaches and innovative business models that are both environmentally friendly and efficient.

However, there are also challenges. The growing carbon footprint of digital technologies, e-waste and geopolitical tensions present obstacles that need to be overcome. The conference participants discussed various approaches to overcome these challenges and at the same time exploit the potential of digital transformation.

The OECD Forum showed that the path to a green and digital future is complex but feasible. NRW has the opportunity to be at the forefront of this movement and take an exemplary path towards a sustainable future.
