Groundbreaking trends from Berlin
At a time of great economic and geopolitical upheaval, the role of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) is becoming the focus of attention at the 2023 Industrial Conference. Under the motto “Secure the industrial location together, renew prosperity, strengthen economic security,” experts and managers met in Berlin to discuss the future of German industry and discuss ways for a successful transformation to climate-neutral production methods.
The conference, a joint initiative of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK) and the “Future of Industry” alliance, particularly highlighted the importance of economic security and the challenges facing North Rhine-Westphalia - particularly with regard to energy costs and security of supply.
The need for a temporary bridge electricity price was highlighted in order to promote innovative strength and competitiveness in NRW. This approach gives companies planning security and supports investments in green technologies. Energy4Climate, a leading initiative from North Rhine-Westphalia, was also recognized as part of the “Outstanding Initiative of the Year” competition on the topic of “Transformation”.
The conference also addressed critical voices that question a reduction in global dependencies and a focus on subsidies. Instead, she emphasized the importance of strengthening the supply side through immigration and leaner processes as well as expanding renewable energy.
The event offered a platform for important actors from politics and business to develop common strategies and position NRW as a strong partner in national and European industrial policy.
