Pioneering work in radiological cancer treatment

As part of Horizon Europe, the European Union's ambitious research and innovation initiative, the medical faculty and the Cologne University Hospital are being supported with 3.6 million euros. The focus of this funding is on researching and developing new treatment methods for sarcomas using magnetic resonance-controlled, high-intensity focused ultrasound (MR-HIFU) in combination with local chemotherapy or immunotherapy.

As the world's leading research institution in the field of MR-HIFU, the University Hospital of Cologne is an integral part of the consortium that is driving the “Innovative Health Initiative” under the leadership of Philips Benelux. This broad research and innovation program is part of Horizon Europe and brings together players from the fields of medtech, biotech and pharmaceuticals, patient organizations and leading academic institutions from across Europe.
