Transformation to a climate-neutral future

In order to bring innovations from biotechnology into application more quickly in North Rhine-Westphalia, the Ministry of Economics and Innovation is launching three new funding competitions under the name ZukunftBIO.NRW on the topics of future medicine, infectiology and bio-based industry. Small and medium-sized companies as well as start-ups with innovative ideas and approaches can take part.

Minister of Economics and Innovation Prof. Dr. Andreas Pinkwart: “Biotechnology is – especially in conjunction with digital technologies – a central building block for a climate-neutral and sustainable economy. With ZukunftBIO.NRW we are driving forward the development of biotechnological innovations in North Rhine-Westphalia and accelerating their application in practice. The three funding competitions address important future fields and provide strong impetus for greater added value. Small and medium-sized companies as well as start-ups are called upon to participate with their innovative approaches and ideas – also in collaboration with universities and research institutes in the country.”

The Future Medicine funding competition aims, among other things, to support the development of new solutions for personalized medicine, cell and RNA therapies, biopharmaceuticals and new dosage forms for medicines. The Infectiology funding competition is aimed at companies from the fields of virology, bacteriology, parasitology or immunology that can make a contribution to preventing and combating future epidemics and pandemics. The bio-based industry funding competition aims to bring ideas for the efficient use and processing of renewable raw materials in industry to market maturity more quickly. Due to the increasing use of renewable and recycled raw materials and their biotechnological conversion into sustainable products, important industrial sectors such as the chemical and food industries are becoming less dependent on fossil energy sources.
