Discovering new antibiotics through systems-based research

The Center for Systems-Based Antibiotic Research (CESAR) was recently opened in North Rhine-Westphalia. As a joint initiative of the Ruhr University Bochum and the Lead Discovery Center Dortmund, CESAR focuses on the systematic search for new, antibiotically effective substances. They use bacteria as a starting point to identify previously unknown antibiotic substances.

CESAR offers a comprehensive research infrastructure that covers all steps from the isolation of new substances to the elucidation of their mechanism of action. Given the global threat of antibiotic resistance, CESAR's work is crucial.
