BMWK publishes report on the future of work

Report “The Future of Work in Digital Transformation” published

The Scientific Advisory Board of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection recommends a digital catch-up process to strengthen the market position of German companies and thus draws attention to the fact that we are currently going through several transformations: the transformation towards ecological sustainability and climate neutrality and the advancing digitalization.

At the same time, the report reports, there are only around 3.9 million career starters. Therefore, an enormous shortage of skilled workers is to be expected in many areas of the economy.

The digital transformation, the report writes, “ can lead to an increased discrepancy between the qualification profiles offered and in demand on the labor market ,” which is why a shortage of skilled workers and unemployment may coexist in the future.

The BMWK therefore names “ a comprehensive strategy to strengthen training and further education and its integration into everyday working life ” as a concrete recommendation for action.
