North Rhine-Westphalia is investing in battery research

The newly opened battery cell research production facility (FFB PreFab) in Münster marks significant progress in the development and production of battery cells in North Rhine-Westphalia and sets new standards in German and European battery technology. With a significant investment of over 300 million euros, provided by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, and additional federal funding of up to 500 million euros, the project demonstrates the strong commitment at state and federal level.

Innovative power through cooperation - The FFB PreFab acts as a bridge between scientific research and industrial application by providing a 6,800 square meter research area where not only battery cells can be developed, but also tested on an industrial scale. This facility is part of a larger strategic plan aimed at strengthening North Rhine-Westphalia as a science and business location and expanding its leading role in high-tech research.

Future-oriented research projects – The FFB PreFab is just the beginning of a long-term vision that will be continued with the construction of the even larger FFB Fab. This expansion will significantly increase research and production capacity and create the basis for gigawatt battery cell production. The projects are aimed at securing Germany's technological sovereignty in key industries and actively shaping the energy and transport transition.

Commitment and visions of those involved The importance of close cooperation between the various levels of government, science and industry cannot be overestimated. These partnerships are crucial for the rapid implementation of ambitious goals and the successful realization of the projects, which is underlined by the rapid completion of the FFB PreFab.
