The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) supports young researchers and projects
The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has announced a new funding guideline for junior research groups and research groups in the field of science and higher education research. This initiative aims to strengthen early-career researchers and support innovative research approaches. The funding, which is intended to structurally strengthen the research landscape in Germany, is primarily aimed at supporting young researchers in the early stages of their careers.
Funding objectives and scope
The funding program is geared towards the development and implementation of independent research projects. Junior research groups are given the opportunity to work independently under expert guidance and to further develop their scientific and leadership skills. Funding lasts up to six years for junior research groups and up to eight years for established research groups, with particular emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches.
Requirements and conditions
State and state-recognized universities as well as non-university research institutions in Germany are eligible to apply. Funded projects should primarily be in the non-commercial sector of research and may only commercially exploit their results within Germany, the EEA, and Switzerland. Funding covers project-related expenses and also includes a project allowance to cover other necessary costs.
Meaning and opportunity
The new funding guidelines offer an excellent opportunity for early-career researchers to establish themselves through innovative projects and make a significant contribution to the further development of the German education and research system. This not only strengthens the individual careers of researchers but also promotes the scientific community as a whole.
