Digitalization, AI, scarcity of resources - what role(s) the creative industries can play in the necessary social and economic turnaround: This was discussed on June 20, 2024 at the first creative.summit in the Philara Collection in Düsseldorf in front of and with more than 150 guests. The event, moderated by creative.nrw project manager Lars Terlinden, also addressed the question of what consequences the diverse challenges have for the creative industries themselves.

NRW Economics Minister Mona Neubaur encouraged: “Creative professionals can help find solutions to the many crises of our time by going their own way. Anyone who is so courageous and full of ideas is always willing to try things again if they don't work the first time, anyone who, as a creative worker, has exactly that expertise within them, has a great chance of becoming a significant part of the world to become a success story of the future.”

At the end, creative.nrw project manager Ines Rainer and Svenja Noltemeyer from the Dortmund network Die Urbanisten spoke about the creative.challenges project, in which creative people work with companies to develop solutions for special challenges. Svenja Noltemeyer, a workshop participant at creative.challenges 2023, reported that the idea of a “Circular City Contest” on the subject of plastic recycling, developed for the Leverkusen-based high-tech plastics manufacturer Covestro, has since been further developed: they are working on it together with several partners an application for funding. The creative.challenges 2024 will revolve around special challenges faced by companies and institutions in the Rhenish region - more information will follow soon.
