Almost 1.4 million inhabitants, one of the most successful economic locations in the republic and also the “youngest” region in Germany – that is South Westphalia. It was only in 2007 that five districts merged: Soest, Olpe, Siegen-Wittgenstein, the Märkische Kreis and the Hochsauerlandkreis. With its 59 cities and municipalities, South Westphalia is not only a conscious merger into a region with visions of the future and drive, but also into a real heavyweight: strong, beautiful and authentic.
“South Westphalia - Everything is real!” is the region's self-confident motto: because more than 150 world market leaders are at home in the region. Measured by the number of employees in the manufacturing sector subject to social insurance contributions, South Westphalia is the third strongest industrial region in Germany and the strongest industrial region in North Rhine-Westphalia! The most important sectors include the automotive industry, metal and mechanical engineering, building technology and the healthcare industry. Typical: family-run, medium-sized companies that live traditions and values, where the handshake counts - and success has long been part of the family history.
The wooded low mountain ranges of Sauerland and Siegerland-Wittgenstein are among the most popular tourist destinations in North Rhine-Westphalia. The region offers ideal conditions for families, which is also due to the comparatively low land and real estate prices. With the University of Siegen, the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences, the Siegen Business School, the Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences, the University of Europe for Applied Sciences in Iserlohn and other private universities, South Westphalia is also an efficient educational location.
As a regional development company, Südwestfalen Agentur GmbH combines the forces of business and politics to position the region competitively compared to other locations. Since 2012, she has been implementing regional marketing with her partners (the five districts and “Wirtschaft für Südwestfalen eV”). In the area of regional development, it works in close coordination with the 59 cities and municipalities on future concepts for South Westphalia and implements innovative projects. South Westphalia was also able to take advantage of REGIONALE 2013 - more than 42 innovative and groundbreaking projects were implemented in the areas of urban development, nature and tourism, rural life and business.
The REGIONALE 2025 is currently underway, whose projects carry the South Westphalia DNA: digital, sustainable and authentic.
