The Aachen region is an association of the city of Aachen, the Aachen city region and the districts of Düren, Euskirchen and Heinsberg. Around 1.3 million people live here in 46 communities and cities in an area of around 3,500 km².
The Aachen region is a prosperous region characterized by medium-sized businesses in the border triangle of Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. With the natural and engineering-oriented universities RWTH Aachen and FH Aachen, the Research Center Jülich and many other research institutions, the Aachen region is an important technology and knowledge location. A dense and technology-oriented corporate structure with a lively start-up culture developed in the university environment.
The Aachen Region Special Purpose Association, as a regional development company, designs regional, supra-regional and international networks as well as cooperation in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine. The association sees itself as a “stimulator” for the strategic development of the Aachen region in the interaction between politics and administration. The experts develop strategies and concepts that represent an improvement for the entire region in economic, infrastructural, tourism, cultural and social terms. The Aachen region is a partner of KlimaExpo.NRW and the Aachen Health Region.
The immediate location in the border triangle of Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands makes the region in the far west of North Rhine-Westphalia an international living and economic area. As a member of the cross-border association Euregio Meuse-Rhine, the region is closely linked to its neighbors from Belgium and the Netherlands. We also work closely with neighboring regions such as the Cologne/Bonn region, the Lower Rhine location, the Rheinisches Revier future agency and the Rhineland metropolitan region.
