17.8 million euros investment in the future technology of AI

The newly founded “Center for Applied Artificial Intelligence in Duisburg” (ZaKI.D) will serve as a central hub to support small and medium-sized companies in North Rhine-Westphalia in the implementation and application of artificial intelligence. The center will be funded with a total of around 17.8 million euros over the next four years through a combination of federal and state funds. The initiative, which is part of the STARK program and the 5-location program, aims to accelerate economic and climate-neutral change in the region and strengthen Duisburg as an innovative and competitive location.

The partnership between the University of Duisburg-Essen, the Fraunhofer Institute for Microelectronic Circuits and Systems and Krohne Messtechnik GmbH forms the foundation for the ZaKI.D, which is located in the Fraunhofer inHaus Center and at the University of Duisburg-Essen. In addition to consulting services for companies, the center also offers practice-oriented training and further education through the “ZaKI.D Academy” and plans to establish an AI innovation incubator that will promote start-ups and intensify the networking of players in the field of artificial intelligence.
