As part of the Innovation Prize NRW 2024 in Cologne on September 30th, outstanding personalities were honored who make a decisive contribution to the state's technological strength and sustainability through innovative approaches and creative solutions. Economics and Climate Protection Minister Mona Neubaur honored the award winners, whose ideas have a major influence on the future viability of our region.

We congratulate this year's award winners :

  • Category “ Innovation ”: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Manfred Renner has paved the way for economically competitive production of aerogels . This revolutionary technology offers new possibilities in the construction and materials industries.
  • innovation2business category :
    Marcel Biebl and Jens te Kaat developed the “ iRecu ,” an advanced recuperator burner that is manufactured using 3D printing and can play a key role in the thermal process industry’s transition to low-emission energy sources.
  • Category “ innovation2market ”:
    Prof. Dr. Christian Zenger impressed with his PHYSEC ATR , which uses radio waves to detect unnoticed manipulation of electronic devices and thus ensures more security in the digital world.
  • Audience Award “ innovation4transformation ”:
    Prof. Dr. Axel-Cyrille Ngonga Ngomo developed a groundbreaking new class of neuro-symbolic algorithms . These algorithms make it possible to combine the advantages of neural and symbolic AI approaches and thus
    create innovative new applications.

Our conclusion :
Yesterday was another evening that clearly showed what and how much NRW can do. The range of experts – not just the award winners, but in the room in general – was impressive. An accompanying topic:

  • the innovation into use .
  • This not only requires financing , but also the right network.

We are all the more proud that we were once again able to take part in the NRW Innovation Prize and thus open our network to even more innovators from NRW.
