EU report emphasizes urgent expansion of 5G networks and digital infrastructure

EU report highlights need for improved 5G connectivity

Progress and challenges of digital transformation

A new report from the European Commission highlights the urgency to further expand 5G networks and digital infrastructure in the EU. Currently, 5G networks cover only 50% of the EU territory, while fiber optic networks reach 64% of households. The report shows that additional investments in digital skills, artificial intelligence, data analytics and semiconductor production are necessary to achieve the goals of the Digital Decade Policy Program (DDPP) by 2030.

Need for improvement and future steps

Member States must adapt their strategies to achieve these goals. Progress will be further monitored in future reports.
