New strategies and programs to strengthen Germany as a location for innovation

The Federal Research and Innovation Report 2024, presented by Federal Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger, highlights the research and innovation policy of the federal and state governments. With investments of 121.4 billion euros in 2022, Germany is sending a strong signal and aims to increase the share of spending on research and development in gross domestic product to 3.5 percent by 2025. NRW plays a central role in this.

Research and innovation: key to growth and prosperity

Investments in research and innovation are crucial for Germany's growth and prosperity. The ambitious goal of increasing the share of spending on research and development to 3.5 percent of GDP underlines the importance of innovation for the future. The Growth Opportunities Act, the Future Research and Innovation Strategy and the SPRIND Freedom Act are important steps in this direction.

New initiatives and programs strengthen the innovation location

A central new instrument is the establishment of the German Agency for Transfer and Innovation (DATI), which is intended to promote the transfer of research results into practice. NRW benefits from these measures through increased networking between universities, research institutions and companies.
