3rd NRW.innovative future workshop

Innovation in the bioeconomy for competitive production and materials

Innovations in the bioeconomy are considered to be of great importance from an economic and innovation policy perspective in order to shape the transition from fossil to bio-based raw materials. In addition, the concept of a circular or circular economy is also reflected in key policies such as the environmental economy and sustainability strategy. North Rhine-Westphalia has recognized the importance of the innovation field and anchored it as an important innovation field in the regional innovation strategy. Now it is important to implement the key points and measures formulated therein in order to design the framework conditions for improving the bioeconomy-oriented innovation capacity of companies, but also with a view to the transfer of knowledge and research results from science into application. The initial conditions for North Rhine-Westphalia to become a pioneer of a bio-based economy can generally be assessed as good, but further efforts are still required to achieve the ambitious goals.

Against this background, we have invited you to the virtual future workshop on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, to discuss together different facets of implementing innovations in the bioeconomy as a central pillar for achieving the sustainability goals in North Rhine-Westphalia.

We discussed with the participants specific challenges with regard to the existing structures, institutions and competencies in the NRW bioeconomy innovation system, outlined solutions to overcome the risks and concrete options for action as part of the development of a future projection.

We would like to thank you very much for your active participation!
