New knowledge is continuously generated in various university and non-university institutions. Germany and North Rhine-Westphalia are very well positioned here - but how can this knowledge be efficiently transferred into practice and contribute to successful innovations? What specific needs and answers arise in North Rhine-Westphalia? These and other central questions about knowledge and technology transfer guided the expert workshop “The path from new knowledge to application” .

The transfer of knowledge and technology is an integral part of the regional innovation strategy of North Rhine-Westphalia as well as the state's innovation and economic development. It has also been institutionalized at different levels of responsibility and actors for many years. In addition to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Protection and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (MWIKE), there is a broad landscape of clusters, networks, competence centers, associations, etc. at the decentralized level. have emerged that act in addition to the universities and technology providers in the area of ​​knowledge and technology transfer (KTT).

We therefore invited people to the virtual expert workshop and discussed the needs and instruments of modern knowledge and technology transfer, challenges and potential conflicting goals, as well as opportunities and approaches for further developing the knowledge and technology transfer system.
