Transformation towards a climate-neutral future
To accelerate the application of biotechnology innovations in North Rhine-Westphalia, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Innovation is launching three new funding competitions under the name ZukunftBIO.NRW (FutureBIO.NRW), focusing on future medicine, infectiology, and bio-based industries. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and startups with innovative ideas and approaches are eligible to participate.
millions of euros
The country will provide funding for this until 2025.
Minister for Economic Affairs and Innovation, Prof. Dr. Andreas Pinkwart: “Biotechnology – especially in conjunction with digital technologies – is a key component for a climate-neutral and sustainable economy. With ZukunftBIO.NRW, we are driving the development of biotechnological innovations in North Rhine-Westphalia and accelerating their practical application. The three funding competitions address important future fields and provide strong impetus for increased value creation. Small and medium-sized enterprises as well as start-ups are encouraged to participate with their innovative approaches and ideas – ideally in cooperation with universities and research institutions in the state.”
The Future Medicine funding competition aims, among other things, to support the development of new solutions for personalized medicine, cell and RNA therapies, biopharmaceuticals, and new drug delivery systems. The Infectious Diseases funding competition is aimed at companies in the fields of virology, bacteriology, parasitology, or immunology that can contribute to the prevention and control of future epidemics and pandemics. The Bio-based Industry funding competition aims to accelerate the market launch of ideas for the efficient use and processing of renewable raw materials in industry. The increasing use of renewable and recycled raw materials and their biotechnological conversion into sustainable products will reduce the dependence of key industries such as the chemical and food sectors on fossil fuels.
