The state of North Rhine-Westphalia launches a new sustainability portal

The transformation of the industrial state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the importance of sustainable financial and capital flows were central themes of the sustainability conference “Sustainable Finance” on February 23, 2022, which was attended by Environment Minister Ursula Heinen-Esser and Finance Minister Lutz Lienenkämper, as well as other high-ranking representatives from science, business, administration and civil society.

According to the Environment Minister, this conference, as well as the state's new sustainability portal, promotes exchange and showcases opportunities for implementing sustainability. The state's sustainability strategy provides strategic guidance.

The state government highlights the financing of social and environmental projects through sustainability bonds as an important catalyst for sustainable transformation – North Rhine-Westphalia has issued eight such bonds with a total volume of 16.6 billion euros, making it one of the world's largest public issuers of sustainability bonds.
