Strengthening cooperation between science, business and society

The funding guideline “HAW-ForschungsPraxis” of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) supports universities of applied sciences (HAW) in establishing and expanding long-term research collaborations with non-university practice partners – including companies, municipalities, associations, organizations, and public administrations. The aim is to strengthen application-oriented research and promote the transfer of scientific knowledge into practice.

Funding is available for research projects jointly conducted by at least two professors from one or more universities of applied sciences and at least two industry partners. The projects should develop and implement innovative solutions to economic and societal challenges. The involvement of additional research partners, such as universities or non-university research institutions, is possible.

Grants are awarded as non-repayable subsidies. Eligible expenses include personnel, material and travel costs, teaching replacements, patent applications, science communication measures, and open access publications.

The project duration is typically 36 months, with the possibility of extension for doctoral projects. Applications consist of a project outline and a funding request. The deadline for submitting outlines is November 28, 2025.
