Digital information event on NRW initiatives in the area of “real laboratories”

On May 30th, around 20 participants came together in the digital exchange format NRW-Clusters meet… with the Digi-Sandbox.NRW initiative to find out more about the existing consulting services for setting up real-world laboratories in NRW.

Real-world laboratories are test rooms that are limited in duration and are used to test innovative ideas under real conditions. However, real-world laboratories often come up against the limits of the existing legal and regulatory framework. With so-called experimentation clauses, it is possible to create a secure legal framework to allow deviations from the existing legal framework. A real-world laboratory law is currently being developed at the federal level.

In order to support innovation players in the implementation of real-world laboratories, NRW offers the Digi-Sandbox.NRW initiative free advice on approval processes for interested innovation players. 65 real-world laboratories in North Rhine-Westphalia are already registered on the Digi Sandbox Map. NRW real laboratories can be located in various subject areas. Blockchain-Europe, for example, is working as one of the registered real-world laboratories to make blockchain technologies usable for NRW companies. Smart city solutions are tested in the Open Innovation Lab in Gelsenkirchen. The Digi-Sandbox.NRW website contains a lot of helpful information, such as existing experimental clauses and valuable tips for setting up real-world laboratories.
