CircularCities.NRW – A call for sustainable transformation

North Rhine-Westphalia supports cities and municipalities in their transition to a resource-efficient and sustainable circular economy. With the Circular Economy – CircularCities.NRW funding program, the state is targeting municipal stakeholders, businesses, research institutions, and civil society organizations that want to jointly explore new approaches – going beyond established circular structures such as waste or water management. The CircularCities.NRW initiative aims to support cities and municipalities in North Rhine-Westphalia in implementing a resource-efficient circular economy. This includes not only the reuse and recycling of materials, but also the development of new business models and collaborations that can contribute to increasing local value creation and generating new jobs

Eligible to apply are collaborative projects involving at least one municipality. These include municipal associations, companies, SMEs, universities, chambers of commerce, associations, and foundations. In the currently ongoing third application round, inter-municipal collaborations and the recycling of critical material flows are also eligible for funding for the first time.

The next submission deadline is May 28, 2025 at 11:59 PM. Project selection will be made by an independent panel based on defined funding criteria.

This measure is part of the ERDF/JTF program NRW 2021–2027 and is being implemented by the Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
