Groundbreaking trends from Berlin
In a time of great economic and geopolitical upheaval, the role of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) is in the spotlight at the 2023 Industry Conference. Under the motto "Securing the industrial location together, renewing prosperity, strengthening economic security," experts and executives met in Berlin to discuss the future of German industry and explore pathways for a successful transformation to climate-neutral production methods.
The conference, a joint initiative of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK) and the "Future of Industry" alliance, highlighted in particular the importance of economic security and the challenges facing North Rhine-Westphalia – especially with regard to energy costs and security of supply.
The need for a temporary bridging electricity price was emphasized to promote innovation and competitiveness in North Rhine-Westphalia. This approach provides companies with planning certainty and supports investments in green technologies. Energy4Climate, a leading initiative from North Rhine-Westphalia, was also recognized in the "Excellent Initiative of the Year" competition for the theme of "Transformation.".
The conference also addressed critical voices questioning the reduction of global dependencies and the focus on subsidies. Instead, it emphasized the importance of strengthening the supply side through immigration, streamlined procedures, and the expansion of renewable energies.
The event provided a platform for key players from politics and business to develop joint strategies and to position North Rhine-Westphalia as a strong partner in national and European industrial policy.
