Future Network Mobility NRW
The vision of the "Future Network Mobility NRW" is that all people in North Rhine-Westphalia will have climate-neutral and sustainable mobility.
This vision forms the basis and guiding principle of our daily work. It answers the "why" of our activities and succinctly summarizes the core values of sustainability, responsibility, and communication.
- Sustainability
aims to make mobility more sustainable: energy-efficient, environmentally friendly (climate protection, air pollution control, noise emissions, land use) and socially acceptable (affordability, social participation). - Responsibility:
There is an awareness of the responsibility to not infringe upon the fundamental rights of future generations, in accordance with the ruling of the Federal Constitutional Court on the Climate Protection Act. This responsibility is being addressed by working together with the municipalities in North Rhine-Westphalia to advance the mobility transition. - Communication:
The mobility transition is fundamentally a communicative task that requires education, persuasion, inspiration, guidance, and networking. This task is being pursued systematically.
The vision of sustainable and climate-neutral mobility is by no means utopian – on the contrary: there is a conviction that this goal can be achieved together with the municipalities in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The Future Network Mobility NRW advises and supports municipalities as a partner for mobility management with two main focuses:
Municipal mobility management as a change process:
Sustainable mobility development requires a change in planning routines in the administration in conjunction with local politics – this change process is being specifically promoted.
Mobility management measures:
The focus is on offers for networked mobility as well as target group-specific measures for mobility management.
The mission addresses the "how" of daily work and describes the core of the activity:
supporting municipalities in developing the framework for sustainable mobility concepts and implementing them in concrete measures through municipal mobility management. The goal is to create attractive, sustainable mobility options in municipalities and reliable connections between rural areas and cities.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Gerlach
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Gerlach is a civil engineer and traffic planner, as well as a professor at the University of Wuppertal, where he heads the teaching and research area for road traffic planning and engineering. After completing his studies and doctorate in Wuppertal, he worked as a project manager and managing partner in traffic planning, among other roles, and managed numerous projects for federal, state, and local governments. He has been a professor since 1999 and has played a key role in developing the degree program in transport economics engineering. He is also active in professional committees, organizes conferences, gives international lectures, and is committed to sustainable and safe mobility.
