Cluster Industrial Biotechnology eV.
CLIB is an international open innovation cluster for industrial biotechnology and also a registered, non-profit association. Since 2008, we have been one of the leading bioeconomy organizations in Germany and Europe. Our mission is: "Network biotechnology – create sustainability".
We represent the interests of our members. Our membership comprises large corporations, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), startups, academic institutions, universities, and other stakeholders active in the circular bioeconomy, forming a strong and trusted network. We see ourselves as a supra-regional and international cluster. Of our more than 120 members, approximately 25% have an international background, and many others operate internationally and globally. Our team is based in Düsseldorf, North Rhine-Westphalia, a core region of industrial value creation.
Together with our members, we advance sustainable processes and products in industrial biotechnology, across industries and sectors, from traditional biotechnology and the chemical industry to technology providers. We connect our members to initiate new research and business projects. Since our founding, we have launched over 70 publicly funded projects. Our goal is to connect stakeholders along and across value chains and identify new opportunities.

Dennis Herzberg
Dennis Herzberg is an expert in industrial biotechnology and innovation management with many years of experience in building and managing innovation networks. He works as Cluster Manager and Managing Director at CLIB – Cluster Industrial Biotechnology, where he is responsible for networking industry, research, and politics around sustainable biotechnological solutions.
His professional focus lies in industrial biotechnology, bioeconomy, and the transfer of scientific innovations into industrial applications. He has been involved with CLIB in various leadership and project management roles since 2010 and has significantly shaped the network's strategic development.
Dennis Herzberg studied biotechnology, life sciences, and business administration at the University of Münster, specializing in innovation management. In addition to his management experience, he possesses strong skills in fostering collaboration between academia, industry, and public institutions.
