Funding program to accelerate the planning of urban and railway projects
North Rhine-Westphalia is funding the planning of urban and railway projects for sustainable mobility with around 60 million euros
Accelerated planning of new infrastructure projects is the foundation for a sustainable mobility transition. To achieve this, the Ministry of the Environment and Transport of North Rhine-Westphalia is funding 45 projects with approximately €60 million as part of its funding program to accelerate the planning of urban and railway projects. Environment and Transport Minister Oliver Krischer emphasizes the crucial role of public transport in the mobility transition and achieving climate goals. The aim is to “…increase public transport services by at least 60 percent by 2030.”
The funded projects include, among others, the extension of the Bonn light rail system via Niederkassel to Cologne, the diesel replacement concept for the Lower Rhine-Münsterland network, and the reactivation of the Walsum railway line. Feasibility studies, which serve as the basis for subsequent planning phases, are also being funded.
