The pilot project "Press Start: Games Startup Grant" is aimed at young entrepreneurs who want to establish culturally oriented development studios in Germany. The program aims to facilitate the founding of new studios and promote Germany as a games development hub. The application period runs from October 28 to November 17, 2024.
A total of €8 million is available for the project, benefiting 130 founders who have launched a company within the last 18 months or plan to do so within the next 12 months. Over a period of 18 months, the scholarship recipients will receive €2,750 per month to fully concentrate on founding and developing their first game. The program also offers comprehensive educational and networking opportunities, as well as coaching to facilitate their entry into the industry.
Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth launched the funding program specifically to support the German games industry. It is organized by game – the German Games Industry Association – in cooperation with the Digital Games Culture Foundation. In addition to supporting startups, the German government plans to further strengthen the cultural heritage of computer games.
