Funding for International Collaborative Projects: Sustainable Agricultural and Food Systems

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) are promoting international collaborative projects for the development of sustainable and resilient agricultural and food systems within the framework of the National Bioeconomy Strategy.

Aims and funding content

The aim of this funding is to develop sustainable, efficient, and resilient production systems in agriculture. The "Green ERA-Hub" initiative plays a central role in this. This Coordination and Support Action (CSA), supported by the European Commission, comprises 15 EU initiatives in the fields of agriculture, food production, and biotechnology. The funding focuses on innovative breeding methods and sustainable farming practices to increase the productivity and quality of food, feed, and biomass. It also aims to improve the resilience of production systems to abiotic and biotic stress.

Funding structure and participation conditions

This call for proposals supports international collaborative projects that explore new insights and technologies for sustainable and resilient supply systems. Funding is provided in the form of non-repayable grants with a duration of up to three years. Eligible applicants include universities, non-university research institutions, and commercial enterprises, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Project goals

The projects aim to develop innovative approaches to improve the resilience of production systems, reduce resource use, increase water efficiency, and promote agrobiodiversity and soil health. The goal is climate-smart agriculture that contributes to economic sustainability.
