OUT OF THE BOX.NRW: North Rhine-Westphalia is looking for the best tech start-ups
The OUT OF THE BOX.NRW Award is entering a new round to find and recognize the most innovative tech startups from North Rhine-Westphalia. With a total prize fund of €50,000, the competition offers an attractive platform for young companies with digital business models to present their ideas and gain valuable attention.
Application and participation conditions
Start-ups from all over North Rhine-Westphalia can apply until February 28, 2025. Requirements for participation are:
- Establishment period: Between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2024.
- Company headquarters: North Rhine-Westphalia.
- Business model: Innovative and digital.
Prize money and final
The competition offers prize money amounting to:
- 25,000 euros for 1st place,
- 15,000 euros for second place and
- 10,000 euros for 3rd place.
The competition final will take place at the renowned Hinterland of Things conference on June 5, 2025, in Bielefeld. Here, the finalists will present their business models to a high-caliber audience of business leaders, investors, and innovators.

The OUT OF THE BOX.NRW Award is organized by the founders foundation in cooperation with the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Protection and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia . It aims to promote the start-up scene in North Rhine-Westphalia, strengthen the exchange between founders and established companies, and put innovative ideas in the spotlight.
