North Rhine-Westphalia invests in a green future

The progres.nrw funding program – Climate Protection Technology in North Rhine-Westphalia – is showing results: Since the beginning of 2023, more than €100 million in funding has already been requested. The program thus represents significant support for citizens, companies, and municipalities in implementing innovative climate protection technologies.

With over 6,000 applications submitted, the program underscores the high demand for and commitment in North Rhine-Westphalia to the expansion of renewable energies and the use of technologies to increase energy efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions. Of particular note is the funding for the installation and expansion of photovoltaic systems, which made a significant contribution in 2023 with €38 million for 451 rooftop systems on municipal buildings.

Due to tight budgets and changes in European funding regulations, new funding guidelines are expected for 2024. Nevertheless, a wide range of funding opportunities remain available, including the Citizens' Energy Fund, which will support the preliminary planning costs of citizen energy projects starting January 1, 2024. The KlimaQuartier.NRW (Climate Quarter NRW) and the "More Photovoltaics on Commercial Roofs" campaign are also part of the initiatives to further promote the expansion of renewable energies in North Rhine-Westphalia.
