Digital information event on NRW initiatives in the field of "real-world laboratories"

On May 30th, around 20 participants met in the digital exchange format NRW-Clusters meet… with the Digi-Sandbox.NRW initiative to learn more about the existing consulting services for the establishment of real-world laboratories in NRW.

Real-world laboratories are test environments with limited duration, designed to test innovative ideas under real-world conditions. However, these laboratories often encounter limitations within the existing legal and regulatory framework. So-called experimental clauses offer the possibility of creating a secure legal framework to permit deviations from existing legislation. A law specifically addressing real-world laboratories is currently being drafted at the federal level.

To support innovation stakeholders in implementing real-world laboratories, North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) offers free consultations on the approval process for interested innovation stakeholders through the Digi-Sandbox.NRW initiative. Sixty-five real-world laboratories in NRW are already listed on the Digi-Sandbox map. These NRW real-world laboratories cover a variety of topics. Blockchain-Europe, for example, is one of the listed real-world laboratories working to make blockchain technologies usable for NRW companies. Smart city solutions are being tested at the Open Innovation Lab in Gelsenkirchen. The Digi-Sandbox.NRW website provides a wealth of helpful information, such as existing experimental clauses and valuable tips for setting up real-world laboratories
