NRW start-up in focus
A major step forward for quantum technology: The University of Münster's spin-off "Pixel Photonics," together with the "Integrated Quantum Technology" research group and other research and industry partners, has received an impressive €1.45 million in funding from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The focus? The development of photon detectors for applications in quantum communication, quantum computing, and medical devices.
The ambitious project "Scalable Multi-Channel Quantum Communication Platform (MultiQomm)" plans to develop a detector chip for industrial applications. The innovation: various superconducting single-photon detectors with different functions on a single chip. The researchers see this as a revolution in quantum key transmission, enabling smaller systems and paving the way for effective anti-hacking features.
The Münster-based start-up “Pixel Photonics” has already achieved considerable success and was awarded the Innovation Prize of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia in 2022.
