Digitalization, AI, resource scarcity – what role(s) the creative industries can play in the necessary social and economic turnaround: This was the topic of discussion for wurdé on June 20, 2024, at the first creative.summit in the Philara Collection in Düsseldorf, attended by more than 150 guests. The event, moderated by creative.nrw project manager Lars Terlinden, also addressed the question of what consequences these diverse challenges have for the creative industries themselves.

North Rhine-Westphalia's Minister of Economic Affairs, Mona Neubaur, offered encouragement: "Creative professionals can contribute to finding solutions to the many crises of our time by forging their own unique paths. Those who are so courageous and full of ideas, always willing to try things again when they don't work the first time, those creative professionals who possess precisely this expertise, have excellent chances of becoming a significant part of the success story of the future."

In closing, creative.nrw project manager Ines Rainer and Svenja Noltemeyer from the Dortmund-based network Die Urbanisten spoke about the creative.challenges project, in which creative professionals collaborate with companies to develop solutions for specific challenges. Svenja Noltemeyer, a workshop participant in creative.challenges 2023, reported that the idea for a "Circular City Contest" on the topic of plastics recycling, originally developed for the Leverkusen-based high-tech plastics manufacturer Covestro, has since been further developed: Together with several partners, they are working on a funding application. The creative.challenges 2024 will focus on specific challenges faced by companies and institutions in the Rhenish mining region – more information will follow soon.
