Progress with innovation potential
The latest interim report from the DigitalRadar Hospital Consortium shows that the digital maturity of German hospitals has improved significantly since 2021. The average DigitalRadar score rose by 9.1 points to 42.4. North Rhine-Westphalia is among the three leading federal states with a score of 44.5, directly behind Berlin and Saxony.
The progress is a clear signal of the success of investments in digital infrastructure, particularly through the Hospital Future Act (KHZG). This law has triggered a surge of innovation nationwide – and also in North Rhine-Westphalia. Patient participation and digital system structures have developed particularly strongly, indicating an increasing integration of digital processes into daily hospital operations and patient communication.
North Rhine-Westphalia demonstrates how state policy and targeted funding measures can effectively advance digitalization in the healthcare sector. Its ranking among the top three German states underscores the region's high innovation potential. At the same time, regional differences highlight that political governance at the state level is a crucial lever for digital transformation.
A key element of the project is the digital dashboard, which provides hospitals with individualized feedback. These data-driven insights help to further develop digitalization strategies in a targeted manner – an important step towards sustainable innovation in healthcare.
